None of This is Real Piece 1 - Original Collage on Canvas
Mixed media on 8" x 10" premuim 1" thick canvas.
This is an original series of three pieces that serve as a reminder that we live in a world built on illusions, fabricated rules, expectations, and systems designed to benefit a few while keeping others locked out.
In Piece 1, vintage Monopoly money lines the canvas, stamped with the words "None of this is real" representing how wealth isn’t distributed fairly and the game was never meant to be won by all.
Scattered vintage cards from the game "Bermuda Triangle" depict over-harvested resources and overpriced goods, reflecting capitalism’s harsh impact on human, land, animal and earth.
The “Opportunity Knocks” card mocks the false pride wrapped in the idea that working ourselves to exhaustion is something to be proud of and reminds us that the playing field has never been level.
Monopoly houses stand as symbols of the housing crisis, where home ownership, the so-called American Dream, remains out of reach for many.
Coy and smiling lips nod to the societal construct that demands female-presenting people to be “pretty,” flawless, and forever pleasing.
None of this is natural. None of this is real. But in knowing there is power.
